Chivas

Known by its real name Club Deportivo Guadalajara, this club is widely known by the nickname Chivas. This nickname, if anyone is interested, translates to – goats.

This is a club that is convincingly the most popular in Mexico. A study from April 2016 shows that as many as 44.2% of Mexicans support the Goats, and they have largely earned the title of the most popular club with their transfer policy.

Only Mexicans play for them. Buying foreigners is not allowed, and they rely heavily on their youth school. Some of the most famous products of this school are Omar Bravo, Javier Hernandez Chicharito, Carlos Salcido, and Marco Fabian.

Restrictions on bringing in players are not a limiting factor when it comes to results. They are one of two clubs that have never been relegated from the highest rank of competition in Mexico, along with America. The Yellows from Mexico City are the most trophy-winning with 13 national titles, and Chivas is breathing down their neck with 12 titles.

They have won the CONCACAF Champions League twice, and interestingly, they are the most successful Mexican club in the Copa Libertadores with two semi-final placements.
